Another one bites the dust...

Sad to say, two of my blogging compatriots have decided to say adios to law school after just their first semester. Littlest Tortfeasor and Law School Virgin are both done with the law school game. While I've only heard rumors of such dropouts at UT (seems a little early, since most sections only have 2 of their 4 grades so far) I say congrats to everyone who's sticking it out with me for another semester, at least.

But really, when snow days mean that your only class all week is Legal Research and Coloring, who wouldn't mind law school?

I agree that it's probably a little too early to decide when we don't even have all of our Fall grades. I've only heard one substantiated story of a UT Freshlaw dropping out but it was a medical leave. Apparently, taking a medical leave during the first semester is the same as dropping out and if you want to return you have to re-apply!?!

Wow. I couldn't imagine dropping out. I've been a student for about 5 months now, and it's been so unfathomably better, as an existence, than being an employee in the Fortune (theirs, not mine) 500. It's obviously not for everyone, I guess -- but I wouldn't give it up for the world right now.

One person in my section dropped last year after one semester, but it wasn't about grades. Just the realization that law school sucks AND it wasn't going to be worth the pain. Nothing wrong with that. And if you're going to go, better sooner than later.

I knew we lost 2 or 3 from our section even before finals, so I'd expect that there will be more.

A few people from my section at school have dropped already for a variety of reasons. I complain about it a lot, but I don't think I hate it enough to do that.

See, you say "Legal Research and Coloring." I say, "Legal Research and Vomiting." I swear, everytime I walked into that class, I got an upset stomach. Irony is having your lowest grade in Legal Research and Repetition, and then deciding to write professionally as a journalist.

We had one drop after a few weeks in protest against the socratic method, but everyone else has hung in since semester 1 exams. Even though there were 2 F's in crim. F's!! How much would that suck?! Have to take a class over, and it was clearly not one you enjoyed in the first place?

And I agree with t, which is why I am sticking with it.

Looks like one of our classmates is not about to be daunted with respect to grades (and yes, Lioness, this is probably who you think it is):

Dear Lunch:

Please tell me who the poster on XOXO is so that I may allow him/her/it to become my new punching bag.

Redo? An exam? Can we sell tickets to his/her/its meeting with the prof?

Hey guys,

I deleted that last post with the link on it, because it pretty directly identifies a fellow student. And she probably doesn't want her grades and stuff displayed on a blog widely read by her peers, even if she did originally post the stuff on an internet message board. Trying to be nice here.

law school is fun if you don't care about getting a job. worry about that shit later. i wouldn't mind working at TECQ or some other state agency. It's a 9-5 and 40-50k is a lot more money than I was making.

Is 40-50K still more than you were making when you factor in your debt payments?

law school isn't bad at all if you don't harbor huge intentions for biglaw. i never have from the get-go. grades are important personally, and will matter to any employer -- state, small, mid, etc. but it's clear they're somewhat more important for biglaw than they are for other types of employers. jsia.

also, to whomever wants to take the test over, i say, go have a beer for god's sake. you scored all a's and a b-. taking a law school exam sucks enough the first time.
